Assignment 1: Faith

Spike Lee's documentary When the Levees Broke has always had a big impact on me. In high school I did a show called The Katrina Project that was put together made of direct quotes taken from Katrina survivors. While preparing for this show we watched When the Levees Broke and it has always resounded with me.
The part that stuck out to me the most was in the second part when someone who was in the Superdome told us about the praise. They showed a clip that must have been taken from a phone of many people going around the Superdome singing their praises to God. I have always thought that faith is such a powerful thing and can do so much for people. I think that was the point that Lee was making with that scene and allowing that story to be told in the film because it was supposed to illicit a response from people. Religion has always been such a hot topic that whether you have faith or not that scene said something to everyone. As an audience member I think we were forced to think about faith and whether or not it really is enough in hard situations or whether, for some people, it was not enough.
My response to this is most certainly an ideology because many people could disagree that faith is anything to be argued about, but I think it is a perfectly reasonable argument to have (as long as it is had respectively). Most conversations about religion are ideological because religions are the biggest ideologies we have, created by some and accepted by many.
