Assignment Zero

Assignment Zero:
Hello, my name is Scott.  Born and raised a hockey player in Minnesota, I've always kept a television nearby.  I grew up on cartoons and classic film and music introduced by my father.  As I aged, I centered my interests in storytelling and aesthetics around the moving images of cinema.  My favorite film I haven't seen yet.  Numerous films, mostly Kubrick or P.T. Anderson, I watch repeatedly for aesthetic or worldly escape.  There are didactic films (eg. Fight Club, Good Will Hunting) that I choose to keep with me after viewing that shape my morals and perception of reality.  I've loved movies that lack narrative elements, movies that create tangible repressions of desire (eg. Space Jam, American Psycho, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas).  I love to laugh with dark, witty, human nature comedy (Coen brothers). My favorite genre is probably the criminal/gangster genre, and my least is romance.  In Cinema/Ideology, I'm hoping to work on my understanding of the horror genre.  I was terrified by horror films as a kid, so I stayed away from that genre as best as I could.  Now that I've taken 'Film & Art History' in my 1st year at Gustavus Adolphus, I can understand film as a medium on an introductory level.  I'm ready to revisit the horror genre with new eyes and a willingness to get shocked.
